Skipton Castle Wedding | Alex and Ben

A Bride and Groom in front of symmetrical ornate doors in a Skipton Castle wedding

READ ON to discover my SUPER POWER

I’ve explored the woods around Skipton Castle when I used to live this side of Yorkshire but I was always too cheap to pay the admission fee to go inside 😂 But wowza I’m sorry I never did as this venue was absolutely INCREDIBLE! Hold onto your seats people because this Skipton Castle wedding is BEAUT!

Symmetry in the grand hall provides the backdrop for the Bride and Groom in this Skipton Castle wedding.

Before we talk about that though, let’s rewind to the beginning of the day with Alex, her mum & her awesome Bridespeople as they got ready in Alex & Ben’s Skipton home. Before I got there Alex messaged me saying “Ryan I’m sorry but my house isn’t very photogenic” to which I replied “you’d be surprised what I find photogenic haha.” When I arrived I was greeted by such an epic home. Vintage furniture, glorious artex walls & a beaut retro bathroom that let in all the gorgeous light. After getting ready I couldn’t resist taking Alex in every room of her home for some badass portraits.

From there we headed to Skipton Castle for the most beautiful of weddings amidst the Chapel. This space was just jaw droppingly beautiful. Especially the empty stained glass window that created some killer light. These two said their I do’s as nesting birds flew between the rafters & rain cascaded upon wizened stone.

I’ve actually developed what I think is my new super power this wedding season. I’ve officially been at three weddings this year where someone’s dropped a full tray of Prosecco while I was looking at them. What’s funny is I always react the same. “Oh dear are you ok?” then I proceed to take a million photos of said destruction. So be wary when holding a full tray of drinks around me as I may well cause you to drop them with my SUPER POWER. I’m just like one of the X Men when you think about it. Only a bit shitter.

Exploring Skipton Castle with Alex & Ben in tow was just a dream. This place was just bloody magic. It kind of felt like I was on a school trip only without the giant backpack & sense of existential dread. We ended the day in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales at the Tempest in Elslack for some awesome food & fab speeches before hitting the dance floor for a bubble filled first dance.

The font in Skipton Castle Chapel provides foreground in this atmospheric Bride and Groom Portrait.

A final special mention has to go to their choice of first dance song too. One of my favourite tunes of all time from the movie Labyrinth “As The World Falls Down” by mr majestic crotch himself David Bowie. What a crazy awesome day full of amazing humans.

Here’s to Alex & Ben! XO

THE REVIEW

"Absolutely cannot recommend Ryan highly enough. 🤩 When we started looking for a wedding photographer for our Skipton Castle Wedding we only knew what we didn't want- flat, boring photos 😴 It wasn't until we saw Ryan's work, though, that we knew exactly what we did want. His photography is the antithesis of dull!

Neither of us are keen on being at that end of the camera but, from the moment we met on our engagement shoot, Ryan made us feel relaxed and at ease. We were both surprised by how comfortable we felt, and how enjoyable we found the experience.

I won't lie, before meeting Ryan I was slightly apprehensive about being photographed whilst getting ready on the morning of the big day. I knew I would want those memories captured, but worried it would be awkward or difficult. I knew I would be stressed about getting ready and didn't want to feel under any extra pressure. I really need not have been concerned! When Ryan arrived in the morning it just felt like an old friend had popped round to help.

And he continued to help all day. He went above and beyond simply capturing our day and we're so glad he was there with us. His unique talent for being hilarious and fun to be around; cracking jokes and fitting himself with our family and friends, yet still being professional is a special gift! We received so many comments from our guests about how brilliant and charismatic he is, and some were even surprised that we had not known him prior to our engagement!

The photographs we received (long before we expected them) are fantastic. They are just what we hoped for. As well as taking some posed (but not cheesy) shots, he also caught candid, genuine emotion. He has somehow managed to capture in pictures the way we felt on the day and those are the photos we love and will cherish the most.

We must also mention the communication with Ryan could not be faulted. We kept seeing on wedding groups about couples feeling ghosted by their photographers and that couldn't be any further from our experience with Ryan. He never failed to check in and keep us updated and we felt in the loop from the day we first enquired. There is so much to juggle when planning a wedding so not having to chase up or worry is just an extra layer to the great service he delivers.

If you're reading this you're likely already considering booking Ryan. Our advice is to go for it! You wont be disappointed 🖤

Tldr: Ryan will document the magic of your special day beautifully, and is a real delight to be around. 😉"
