It might be February but here's my favourite post to put together of the year, my 2023 on film. I'm not sure I've ever mentioned this but since Casey was born I've put together a physical album every year of my favourite photos of my family & our little Learoyd world. The photos contained within that album are what makes up these personal retrospectives each year along with the little poem at the beginning. You might also wonder if you're one of the four people who read this, why on Earth my years always run from September to September? To give you the boring answer, September tends to be when I home develop & scan the entire years film ready for the years storybook.
2023 was a mixed bag of awesomeness. Unreal holidays and date nights that lead to conceiving our brand new smelly bab. (Too much information I know) Birthdays & trips, another pregnancy journey filled with so much excitement & so many huge fucking laughs. Casey is becoming such a kind & magnetic little human it just fills my heart with so much pride to know we made him & who he is becoming. Yes I'm a wedding photographer & I adore what I do but it's this little slice of time in between wedding seasons that I love so much. Writing this post & choosing those little slices of life that make it into the album / this retrospective allow me to reflect on my year away from taking photos for a living. They allow me to remember I was present for my family & all the cool shit we did that year.
Holy Moly the next ones gonna be a doozy. The year we made a brand new human, the year I finally get to call Paige my Wife. In the meantime if you're reading this… thank you.
